For years I've suffered from a serious case of ARD (Addictive Reading Disorder). It used to be so bad that sometimes, if I was in the middle of reading a good chapter, I'd call my clients and tell them I was running late. Fortunately, I have it under control these days.
Here are some of the books I've read lately that I thought you might enjoy knowing about.
I love this book. And even more, I love how author David Meerman Scott is rolling it out to the public because he's practicing exactly what he preaches.
What is a "World Wide Rave?" It's when people around the world are talking about you, your company, and your products. It’s when global communities eagerly link to your stuff on the Web. It’s when online buzz drives buyers to your virtual doorstep. And it’s when tons of fans visit your Web site and your blog because they genuinely want to be there.
This is the future - and it's today. Check out his website to see how he's created his own "rave."
Author Justyn Howard, who is a practicing sales rep, hasn't made a cold call in three years. Yet in 2008 he had a record year - and in the disastrous 4th quarter, he was at 300% of quota.
How did he do it? In Sell Smarter, he shows you how to leverage Sales 2.0** technologies to drive more sales and outsmart your competitors. You'll learn:
- How to choose and use CRM systems as your data foundation.
- New strategies for email marketing that totally change the game.
- Why salespeople should blog and how to do it.
- How to develop a social networking strategy.
- What you can do to manager your online reputation.
- New technologies for giving better presentations.
- Additional tools and resources to take you to the next level.

When I went to the recent Sales 2.0 Conference, I had an opportunity to meet co-author Anneke Seley. This book outlines the Sales 2.0 formula for success which consists of using the most profitable sales resources for greater productivity, optimizing processes for effectiveness & efficiency, building strong relationships with greater collaboration and leveraging technology to support these processes.
The book is a bit of an academic read, but I believe it's imperative
for sales leadership to be on top of what's happening in the Sales 2.0
world. The strength of this book is in the excellent case studies that show how companies such as Oracle, WebEx and Genius are implementing & integrating this technology across their sales (inside & outside) and marketing organizations.
Recommended for sales managers & sales VPs. Click here to read a couple excerpts.
This book by branding and design firm Capsule makes me drool. I mean it. This company has created a masterpiece. It's full of examples of extraordinary designs, that are also highly effective from a sales/marketing perspective. I'm not even a visual person, but this book has such great "curb appeal" that I can't put it down.
I've hired Capsule twice because I love their work. And I also love their books. Check out their first one too. It's excellent: Design Matters: Logo 01.
This book is a great read! Author Dan Ariely shares his research into how people make all sorts of decisions in their lives. I guarantee you'll be surprised by some of the findings he uncovered. Lots of application of sellers, plus your own life.
It really gets you thinking! Download a couple chapters.
P.S. I don't rave about every book I read - just the ones I like!
